Books ...

So, I've been a bit lazy, but here's somethings that I have read recently ...

First daughter by Eric Lustbader. Interesting with an ending that I really didn't anticipate, but then, on the other hand, it was kind of weird. Basically, the president's daughter gets kidnapped and her friend's father is put in charge of finding her. A thriller, for sure.

Heirloom : notes from an accidental tomato farmer by Tim Stark. I tried to like this one, but it was SOOO boring. But I still love heirloom tomatoes - I can't wait for next summer.

The condition by Jennifer Haigh. I enjoyed this book about a very dysfunctional family. Although it seems that the daughter is the one with the "condition", by the end of the book you wonder if it isn't in fact the entire family who has a condition, diagnosed or not. Some mature content. But interesting to think about the family and how their actions affected those around them.

Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson. Umm ... this book was odd. Basically, a little girl has only an imaginary friend for a friend but he has to leave her at her 8th birthday. But then he appears later and they fall in love. Definitely imaginative, but definitely weird.

Everyday blessings : the inner work of mindful parenting by Myla Kabat-Zinn - I more skim-read this book, but I thought it was a little too hippy for me. I like the idea of being totally there when you are parenting, but really isn't it VERY hard to be totally in the moment when you are parenting a toddler. I did like the idea of viewing a lot of monotonous parenting tasks as a chance for meditation.

Where the heart is by Billie Letts. It's been a while since I saw the movie and I saw this on the shelf, so I had to read it. To recap, a young pregnant girl is dumped by her boyfriend while she's at Walmart in Oklahoma and ends up living there and having her baby there. And that's just the beginning. A little odd at times, but I enjoyed the interweaving of all the townspeople and their big hearts.

A thousand splendid suns by Khaled Hosseini. I really enjoyed this book a lot! The book is of course very sad and tragic at times. But the writing style was beautiful and the characters were so well developed. Great.

Come on shore and we will kill and eat you all : a New Zealand story by Christina Thompson. I really enjoyed this look at New Zealand, their culture and people, by following the life story of a women who falls in love and marries a Maori. I love reading stories of people like this - who travel to a strange place, end up staying for awhile and marrying someone, and just seemingly bopping back and forth all over the globe. Wouldn't that be SO fun.

Well, that's all the books I seem on my list for now ...
