Trip to Mountains, Part One

We left Saturday, the 16th, and stopped on the way at the Greensboro Science Center / Zoo / Aquarium.  We got in completely free with our membership, which is always awesome.  It looked a little rainy, but we ended up really lucking out weather wise this trip.

The boys wanted to start with the zoo part.  Small, but nice.  Noah really liked the peacocks.  We saw turtles, lemurs, tigers, wolves, otters.  The lemurs were really active and it was fun to watch them jump around from rope to rope.  They had a rope course there that the boys liked to watch as we walked to see more animals.  Noah was not much interested in walking and we didn't bring a stroller as our car was stuffed, so I spent a lot of time carrying him this trip.

Next, we went inside and saw some of the science exhibits.  They had some dinosaur bones, some gem stones, some exhibits on weather, a human body exhibit we had seen before, a big area on ships and a play area for the littler kids.

Then, we went to the aquarium section.  It was small - Noah loved looking at all the fish, though.  The boys like to watch sharks.  The penguins were a hit - it's been awhile since we've seen penguins.  (Miss you St. Louis).

I really loved this place.  Perfect size of everything and free.  So glad we made a nice stop.

We drove the rest of the day to the rental.  Things went well until we got about an hour from Asheville and then the weather turned crazy!  We stopped to get gas and then it started to downpour.  The first gas station didn't work, we went to the second one and then as we started putting in gas - humongous thunder & lightning close by and the power went out!  We finally pumped up the car and then waited for 20 or 30 minutes for the rain to slow down.  Katsu drove the rest of the way because I really have a phobia of driving in the rain after some crazy NC thunderstorms.  We were so glad to get to the farm!
